Burn-out Operation

August 25, 2001 views from about 5 miles south-west of the fire during the burn-out operation.  "Burn-out" is a term used for a fire fighting tactic that uses fire to fight fire by igniting unburned vegetation and fuels between the constructed fire line and the active fire.  Burn-out operations are conducted under controlled conditions.
