A member of the family Ranunculaceae, Ewan's larkspur is found in valley grassland and foothill oak woodland sites at elevations below 3000'. Standing 2'-3', the flowers are violet-purple to maroon with the spur curving upwards. The upper leaves are very distinctive, well divided and twisted. Flowering period, April to June. It is ranked by the California Native Plant Society as rare. It has been reported in the following counties: Calaveras, Fresno, Kern, Madera, Stanislaus and Tuolumne. Photographed:
