| The 601 Community Fuelbreak team, during the
past few years, has constructed over 200 miles of fuelbreak and 20,000
acres of fuel modification. Since January 1, 2002, Pacific Gas and
Electric, with local landowners, have completed over 20 miles of community
fuelbreak in Madera County and over 10 miles in Mariposa County.
There are four crews currently working near North Fork to protect this
community, including a major project on Road 274. PG&E crews on
April 22 will begin a fuelbreak on cattle ranches in the Road 200 corridor
from Highway 41 to North Fork.
The team involved in the 601 Community Fuelbreak are: California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, Madera County Fire, Ahwahnee Volunteer Fire Department, U.S. Forest Service, Natural Resource Conservation Service, Ahwahnee Community Council, Madera County Road and Planning Departments, Mariposa Fire Safe Council, Eastern Madera County Fire Safe Council, Mono Indian Rancheria, Pacific Gas and Electric Company, Coarsegold Resource Conservation District, California Reforestation, Inc., and local landowners. |
